  • Introduction: Occupational accidents in Colombia have been causing concern among the different actors in society due to the economic and social costs that derive therefrom. The different entities, both public and private, call themselves: ARL, and the Ministry of Labor, among others, seek to generate programs and strategies aimed at reducing accident rates and therefore their effects. Objective: To determine the sociodemographic, occupational characteristics, those related to work accidents and the qualification of the loss of work capacity of the work accidents qualified in the qualification committee during the year 2014. Materials and methods: A descriptive study of a series of cases was conducted retrospectively, taking information from a secondary source that included sociodemographic, occupational variables, those related to the work accident and the PCL rating. A descriptive statistical analysis of the quantitative variables was carried out with measures of central tendency and dispersion and in the qualitative variables absolute frequencies, percentages and relations between variables through the statistical program SPSS version 25.0 Results: The average age of the study group was 43.1 ± 10.9 years, the male gender was the predominant with 83%, the marital status prevailing free union with 49.4%. The most frequently reported level of education: bachelor with 42.9%. The construction of civil works and engineering presented the highest frequency of AT with 30.7% of cases. The most presented type of injury was trauma (36.0%) and the part of the body most affected column (25.6%). Regarding the variables associated with the PCL score, the modification in the second instance. Predominated and the percentage of PCL that was most common in the study population was the range of 16-30%. Conclusion: some of the characteristics found in the AT studied are similar to those reported in studies carried out in Juntas but it was also evidenced that some of the findings have been influenced by socioeconomic and demographic changes in the department
