abstract

  • In the present review, we aim to investigate the self-medication behaviors in non-human animals. These phenomena have been studied also under the name of zoopharmacognosy. An understanding of the mechanisms that underlie these behaviors is presented, how they are presented in the different species, and how their evolutionary path has been, being a mechanism with adaptive functions that, although still lacking in enough evidence, can begin to outline the evolutionary relevance.
