abstract

  • Introduction: Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is one of the most common congenital heart defects, requires drug and / or surgical management; it presents haemodynamic, respiratory complications and death. The drug of choice for management are indomethacin and ibuprofen, but their cost and accessibility led to the use of diclofenac as a management alternative in some hospital Objective: To compare safety and response to treatment with ibuprofen vs diclofenac closure of PDA, Materials and Methods: A retrospective analytical observational study, which compares the results obtained using Diclofenac and Ibuprofen for closure of PDA in preterm infants. Information inpatient in a hospital neonatal unit of level II Bogotá I was collected. The medical records of patients gestational age between 24 and 36 weeks Ballard were reviewed the criteria for diagnosis of PDA, with drug treatment with one of the following options: Ibuprofen 10 mg / kg initial dose after 5mg / kg to 24 - 48 hours or diclofenac 0.2 mg / kg dose every 12 hours, 3 doses. Diclofenac and Ibuprofen was compared for the pharmacological treatment of PDA in preterm infants. Results: We evaluated 103 patients, the diagnosis of DAP was carried out with echocardiography, 66.6 % of patients had drug Diclofenac was closure, and 69 % with Ibuprofen, mortality was 17.65 % with diclofenac and 11.54% ibuprofen, in both cases associated to prematurity . Conclusions: the pharmacological success was similar in both groups; diclofenac is presented as an interesting alternative when conventional therapy is not available.
