  • Background: Substances use is a public health problem that should be approached from different perspectives. Studies shows several factors involved, age of first use, risk information, social circle and personal history. It has also been shown association with impaired learning abilities and drug. In this study, association between use of inhalants, cannabis and ethanol and the level of education attained is determined. Methods: Cross-sectional study, assay cases reported in unique system of indicators of psychoactive substances in Colombia 2014. Sample 6804 cases. univariate and bivariate analysis was performed with p values for statistical significance. Results and discussion: similar epidemiological behaviors are identified, consistent with other studies, population between 15 and 35 years (76.7%), predominantly male (83.9%) and primary use of cannabis (43.9 %) and alcohol (23.1%). Statistically significant association between consumption of inhalants, marijuana and ethanol and educational status in high school (p <0.005), association between cannabis and educational status in college (p <0.005) was determined. There are biological and epidemiological plausibility to the findings of this study and other work done previously.
