  • INTRODUCTION: People within a society have the right to enjoy physical, mental and material goods, which in principle should be guaranteed by the state integrity, however, due to the inefficiency and lack of scope in the availability of men and women to care for each person and company, the private security or surveillance has emerged as an economic activity to ensure this service individually. OBJECTIVE: Establish the relationship between the accident and the body mass index (BMI) by watchmen served in I. P. S. Occupational Health in Bogota-Colombia during 2015. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study, with secondary data from a database of 76 records, from occupational medical health records performed to population of workers in the surveillance or private security sector for their care was conducted by a Healthcare provider (I. P. S. ) Occupational Health. We include sociodemographic, occupational, those related to occupational accidents and body mass index variables. To be obtained from univariate and for quantitative variables, measures of central tendency and dispersion frequencies were obtained. Besides the fact that to look for odds statistics association, for to know variables that relate whit this event. RESULTS: In this project, it`s underline that of the workers who work as an economic activity of Surveillance and Private Security, predominantly between 20 to 39 age group (56. 5%); and belong to the male gender (84. 2%); in that order, these as non-modifiable factors contribute to the occurrence of occupational accidents with an OR ratio of 1. 7 and 2. 0 respectively; as well as the I. M. C. of overweight (OR 1. 8) and obesity (OR 1. 4) and in itself, the Watchman position concur to the labor accident with an OR of 1. 1 and with that the increase in incapacity to work in 85. 5% from 0 to 60 days. CONCLUSIONS: Should be establish measures to undertaking epidemiological surveillance systems that mitigate and minimize these risks, thus the presence of unwanted events in the workplace for this population and decreased absenteeism.
