GOAL: To determinate the relationship between leisure time physical activity and self-perception of health in Colombia. METHODS: from a complex sample data, we taked 14601 records from 18-64 years-old subjects and we applied logistic regression models for self-perception of health. RESULTS: Leisure time physical activity prevalence was 5,8% in women and 13% in men (p < 0,001); 27,7% of women and 19,7% of men reported a poor self-perception of health (p < 0,001). Higher age, poor scolarity, health system assurance and residency in rural area were the more influent factors over poor self-perception of health. Women with low levels of physical activity showed an OR=1,92 (CI 95% 1,19-3,10)for poor perception of health, compared with those with high levels; similar results were not found in men. DISCUSSION: This study found that high physical activity is significantly related with self-perception of health in women. These results suggests that directing public policies toward physical activity, access to education and health system assurance might improve the health status of colombian people.
