abstract

  • The accelerated phenomenon of technification and automation of production processes has transformed the dynamics of the market. This, among other consequences on the research agenda, has led to study the differences in regional labor markets through new theories that integrate the analysis of the occupational characteristics of the workforce, the urban agglomeration and their patterns of specialization, and polarization. The studies in this line allow to characterize the labor market from a more holistic approach; in addition to generating important inputs in matters of public policy to address issues of inequality, poverty and informality. This work contributes to the Colombian literature through the analysis of salary differences at the regional level from an occupational approach. For which, i) an adaptation of the classification of occupations is made, which is an important input to understand the occupational dynamics; ii) the wage-premium differentials of tasks-skills between cities are quantified and iii) a Oaxaca-Blinder type decomposition incorporating the tasks-skills is performed. This analysis will be a key input for the formulation of public policy that leads to the reduction of adjustments and structural skills gaps.
