abstract

  • This article is the result of a research on freestylers carried out in the city of Bogotá, which main objective was to understand the way in which these young people are built individually; that is, how their individuation processes are developed. It uses the analytical framework of the sociologies of the individual sociologist Danilo Martuccelli, specifically as regards the series of tests and supports that are established through the trajectory and experiences that freestylers have had in relation to rap battles and/or freestyle battles. The development of this research took place through a qualitative methodology which had as its main tools of data collection, participant observation and life story through interviews; this, focused on 4 freestylers’ backgrounds who live in Bogota. It has been found that these young people face family expectation, work/money and battle/recognition as challenges; at the same time recognition and character are constituted as supports.
