abstract

  • Leptospirosis is a zoonosis of epidemiological importance that greatly affects livestock production systems in Colombia, producing economies in the livestock sector. However, in Colombia there is little reliable information about the prevalence and factors associated with the presentation of leptospirosis in livestock systems. This information is essential for the generation of preventive health programs that reduce the incidence of the disease, its economic and health consequences. Objective: To explore the factors associated with the seropositivity of leptospirosis in bovine production systems in livestock municipalities of Antioquia, Boyacá and Nariño during 2016. Methodology: Analytical cross-sectional study in 4,137 cattle and 308 livestock farms. The databases of the Milk Health Excellence Pilot Project were analyzed. Statistical and epidemiological analyzes were carried out with the SPSS statistical software program. Results: Some of the factors associated with greater seropositivity of Leptospira according to our study were: belonging to the Norman race (OR = 1.8 IC 95% 1.37-2.36), the use of direct mountain (OR = 1, 24 IC95% 1.02 - 1.52), semen not certified (OR = 1.73 IC 95% 1.12 - 2.68), presence of aljibe on the premises (OR = 1.53 IC95% 1.11 - 2.12), supply concentrate in cans, (OR = 1.72 IC95% 1.27-2.34), supply concentrate in floor, (OR = 1.66 IC95% 1.21-2.26), Bath pesticide (OR = 1.58 IC95% 1.20 - 2.1), milking manual (OR = 1.86 IC 95% 1.51 - 2.30) among others. On the other hand, some of the factors related to lower seropositivity were: having a Leptospira vaccine (OR = 0.61 IC95% 0.41 - 0.92), first aid kit (OR = 0.66 IC95% 0.54 - 0.81), agricultural products, (OR = 0.68 IC95% 055 - 0.84), technical assistant (OR = 0.66 IC95% 0.54 - 0.81) and existence of a pen (OR = 0, 55 IC95% 0.45 - 0.67) among others Discussion: In this study we found different results associated with the presentation of leptospirosis in the departments of Antioquia, Boyacá, Cundinamarca and Nariño, which responded with data found in the literature and supplement with abundant information the state of the art of leptospirosis in bovines
