abstract

  • This research analyzed the content of four written press massive media outlets non-specialized in fashion journalism, two Colombian, El Tiempo and El Espectador, and two Spaniards, El País and ABC. With the main objective of recognizing its journalistic quality when covering fashionable topics, the analysis was carried out considering the indicators and variables (quantitative and qualitative) proposed by the analysis worksheet of the VAP (Value Added Journalistic), created by the Faculty of Communications of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Finally, we obtained a sample of 904 articles published in the 2016 on the website of each of the media outlets, where 79 were of El Tiempo, 133 of El Espectador, 452 of El País and 240 of ABC. At the end of the research it was evident that the quality of fashion journalism is acceptable in each of the cyber media regardless of country of origin. In fact, although none achieves the desired level in all the indicators established by the VAP, each one excels in a specific variable and stands out for seeking originality, balance in sources, plurality or the search for veracity.
