  • Introduction: In its purpose of promoting and preventing health problems in the population, public health relies on epidemiological surveillance to describe and analyze the appearance and development of diseases of health interest. Psychosocial factors become relevant as part of the social determinants associated with stress and the latter as a prior condition for the development of physical and mental illnesses. Work environments constitute contexts where epidemiological surveillance and monitoring of psychosocial risk factors are a systematic responsibility of companies. Purpose: To assist this responsibility, a guide is proposed for the construction of a psychosocial EVS in work environments that applies in its scope and objective the use of the tasks of collection, analysis and interpretation of information in work environments, the objective of intervening in the organization of work and proactively care for the health of workers. Methodology: The structure of the guide is based on models proposed by the Ministry of Health in Colombia and basic principles of epidemiology that are within the reach of any company, making use of the results of the diagnosis of psychosocial risk factors with the battery of instruments for evaluation. of psychosocial risk factors in force for Colombia and the indicators of the occupational health and safety management system in force in Colombia. Results: It is expected that the understanding and application of this guide will facilitate companies in the organization and interpretation of the results of psychosocial risk diagnoses for the purposes of prevention and early detection of stress and occupational diseases derived from it, which should be reflected in an improvement in the work environment and the well-being of workers. Discussion: The guide proposes active and integrated surveillance of psychosocial risk factors and their effects on health that allows identifying the distribution of risk factors and detecting changes in patterns of occurrence of workers' health events. It is a first integrated approach to health information with the measurement of psychosocial risk considering the conditions and capabilities of companies in Colombia in connection with the SG-SST.
