  • Background: There are official data on organ transplantation in Colombia since 2005 the National Institutes of Health and from 2008 to kidney High Cost Account. The data offer no explanation of the number of registrations on the waiting list for kidney transplant, comparing with other countries: Colombia 4.68% vs. Argentina 27.58% or 21.73% U.S.. There are factors which influence the monitoring after transplantation, but survival of the recipient and graft. Methodology: Research quantitative and qualitative mixed methodology from the information available in official reports as a primary source and taking patients and experts in patient care before and after transplant. Results: Factors to access or not waiting list and most mentioned are monitoring health system, ethical issues regarding referral and authorization. Category emerges as the need for a monitoring system in transplantation. In the quantitative part are transplanted more people if they live in a city with 17.6 vs. transplant group. 8.05%, if they belong to the contributory system OR 3.37 p <0.00001, if they have diabetes OR 3.22 p <0.0001 and hypertension OR 2.42 p <0.0001. There was no difference in gender OR 1.01 p 0.57. Conclusions: We propose adjustments to the health system, with standards of education to promote organ donation and transplantation in all levels of public health personnel.
