abstract

  • Through information from the Public Employment Service (2016-2018) and study plans of higher education programs in Colombia, this paper analyzes the skills gap between educational supply and labor demand, emphasizing said gap as a relevant variable to explain the greater or lesser probability that higher education graduates are linked to the Colombian formal labor market. Study plans are presented as a source of novel information to know the skills offered in the educational system. In addition, exploiting the heterogeneity of the curricular plans, an ordinary least squares model with errors robust to heteroscedasticity is presented, which shows the direct relationship between the supply of higher education (potential labor supply) and labor demand.
