abstract

  • The process of recognizing a place as a natural protected area can be seen as a technical one. In which objective criteria is used to define its characteristics and the appropriate or inappropriate practices in it. But this configuration is a historical and negotiated process. Understanding a place as a natural protected area is a constant dialogue between multiple actors, those who are willing to define nature and environmental care or conservation and the people that live in or near these places, who in their daily lives, build upon these concepts. This social and environmental process occurs in the transformation of perception of places, the relation people build with them and specific practices and relations that are ways of negotiating notions of nature and environmental care. These have great impact on individuals, especially on their subjectivity. Implications that can be seen in facts such as the changes of how people name place, walk on them, observe the species, start agricultural projects, and change their production practices, between others. But mainly on a subjective level, the way they feel over the place, they judge themselves and other´s actions and how they create personal goals over the idea of environmental care.
