abstract

  • Internationalization through history bases its foundations on the classical theory of international trade, which talks about how countries seek the production specialization of goods and services to obtain lower costs in it, allowing the management of resources to the most productive uses and involving the country in more commercial activities. Nowadays most of the international commercial activities are carried out through the seaports, where the logistic development of them plays a very important role to demonstrate the international competitiveness of a country. In Colombia, the port's importance is given by its geographic location, since Colombia is a point of reference between South and Central America as well as having closeness to the island countries and how a natural corridor between the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean represents an opportunity to pass through transport Currently Colombia has two major ports, and this is how in this article will be talked about the port of Buenaventura, a port that has not been taken advantage of at 100% of its capacity and presents different challenges that make it deficient in comparison. Next, different aspects will be enunciated for which the port of Buenaventura must strengthen the different deficiencies that it presents and additionally, a series of guidelines that must consider the port to overcome the logistical challenges that are currently experiencing, to improve the international competitiveness that a port of this category should have.
