abstract

  • Introduction: There is a knowledge gap in the evaluation of fetal growth according to its growth potential, especially in the Colombian population and with perinatal results. Most studies are based on the evaluation of fetuses with maternal and fetal risk factors and do not analyze fetuses and their mothers without risk factors. Objectives: To determine the association between the values of the growth curve and the perinatal results in pregnancies without risk factors. Methodology: Historical retrospective cohort study in pregnant women and their fetuses, without risk factors, who received care in one or more of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units of Clinica Colsanitas between 2017 and 2019, who had at least two or more obstetric ultrasounds. Results: In the study cohort, the mothers had an age range between 15 and 45 years, with an average of 30.3±6.6 years, an average gestational age at delivery of 37.6±1.8 weeks, and 16.1% of the newborns. had preterm labor. In the multivariate analysis, growth potential was found to be significantly associated with the weight of the newborn (p<0.001), adjusting for the confounding variables maternal age and gestational age. Conclusion: There is an association between the potential for fetal growth, with the lowest expected values of the weight percentile. The growth potential was found to be directly related to the weight of the newborn. Descriptors: Fetal growth, growth potential, obstetric ultrasound, adverse perinatal outcomes, Apgar, birth weight.
