abstract

  • The annual incidence of hip fracture in Colombia is 8,000 to 10,000, with a higher frequency in women, with a generally increasing trend due to the global aging of the population. It has an impact on morbidity in the first 6 months and decreases baseline function by up to 50%. The current direction is to perform surgical intervention in the first 72 hours, with perioperative pain management being a fundamental pillar for reducing delirium, perioperative cognitive dysfunction and early rehabilitation for reintegration in daily activities. There are multiple regional analgesic strategies for this entity, however there is no clarity in the evidence of superiority between them. Likewise, it is unknown how often each of the analgesic strategies is carried out in this setting at the national and local level. Therefore, the present retrospective study aims to answer the following question: In patients with hip fracture at the Hospital Universitario Mayor during the 2018-2019 period, taken for surgical management in those who were used during the intraoperative period of any of the different regional analgesia techniques. Are the results analgesic outcomes? In this way, it will be possible to better characterize the different analgesic strategies used in the institution, serving as the basis for future studies and improving clinical practice oriented towards analgesic strategies with better performance and greater safety for the patient.
