The main objective of this paper is to show how the concerning limitations of the implementation of soft power in Chinese foreign policy over Chile has been conditioned to the economic relations, in detriment of political and cultural issues under the government of Hu Jintao (2002-2012). To account for Sino-Chilean relations, this paper develops the conceptualization made by Joseph Nye regarding soft power, in addition of Chinese theoreticians considerations, such as the strengthening of public diplomacy for international image projection, based in cooperation and mutual benefit with the purpose of achieve the peaceful development in the XXI century.
