abstract

  • The objective of this paper is to evaluate the impact of “Alianzas para la Innovación” program in its phases 2 and 3 that were implemented between 2015-2017. This innovation promotion program trains firms to develop innovation prototypes, it is executed by the Colombian Chambers of Commerce under the coordination and financial support of Confecámaras and Colciencias. The results show that after matching the firms and controlling for characteristics that do not vary over time, the program has a positive and significant effect of the 5 pp in the survival rate of firms treated and there is not effect on employment. Additionally, there is a differential effect in the survival rate. It is higher for firms that innovate in products compared to those that innovate in process, and there is an effect for firms whose blue-collar employees are trained, showing that learning-oriented firms support firm performance.
