abstract

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the neural test 1 for the diagnosis of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) using the nerve conduction test as the reference test. In 115 subjects, 230 hands with suspected CTS Patients were evaluated with a test of nerve conduction and neural test 1. A sensitivity of 93 % (95 % CI) and specificity of 6.67 % was found (95 %), positive likelihood ratio was 1.04 and negative likelihood ratio of 1.00. Positive predictive value of 86.9 % and a negative predictive value of 12.5%. This research suggests the application of neural test 1 as a screening test for the detection of STC with other more specific test to be applied to workers in hazardous conditions or with symptoms in the upper limbs. As a recommendation for future studies suggested the participation of subjects no clinical diagnosis of CTS.
