abstract

  • The present work provides an overview of the importance and relevance of technological management in SMEs in Colombia. Currently, micro, small and medium-sized companies nationwide require technological innovations for two essential reasons: the first factor is the optimization of processes, and the second, the improvement of their competitiveness indices. That is why the study of technology management is so important for the sustainability and competitiveness of any organization. According to Solleiro & Castañón (2016), in this sense, organizations face the circumstance of identifying which technologies can help them achieve the financial, productive, technological, environmental and quality objectives that are proposed in the medium and long term; where to buy them; how to incorporate them effectively into the organization, and how to protect their technological developments, among other aspects. Over the years, a series of policies and practices have been developed in Colombia that seek to increase investment, close social gaps, and support economic growth in the region. This allows companies and stakeholders to combine knowledge and action to accelerate change and increase business competitiveness and productivity. The dynamics of SMEs in recent years has been focusing on achieving superior performance, through a competitive advantage that can be sustained over time in the productive sectors and in the markets of the countries (Montoya R. et al., 2010). This text is an analysis of the technological management implemented by micro, small and medium enterprises during the period from 1980 to 2020 in Colombia, and mentions three key concepts for their technological development: technological management, digital strategy and competitiveness, taking as base figures, definitions and concepts issued by multilateral organizations such as the World Bank, the World Economic Forum, as well as documents and journals of scientific rigor from recognized academic institutions.
