abstract

  • The following article analyzes the perspective of the submissive position vis-à-vis the logics and relations of power in the field of BDSM from the contributions of social theory, with emphasis on comprehensive sociology. The idea was to question the interpretation of power as a process that works in only one direction and belongs only to the dominant subject in BDSM. To do so, the problem was approached from a qualitative ethnographic methodology that used study tools such as body mapping, participant observation and the proposal of a sensory exploration workshop to understand the experience of three submissives who belong to the Bogota BDSM scene. The results show that BDSM and, specifically, the submissive perception gives an interpretative twist to the traditional vision of power relations as links of domination by presenting elements that allow understanding erotic and non-erotic power as possibilities to produce new scenarios, actions and subjects thanks to the implementation of agreements, practices of freedom and exercises of recognition and self-knowledge.
