In establishing such relationships, especially with less developed states, the North American country seeks to improve its position and profit at the expense of the other party through the imposition of conditions to maximize their profits and gains. The U.S. government's need to maintain and increase its credibility with its citizens and also encourage other countries to open their borders is expressed in incongruence between speech advocate of free trade and protectionist strategies as non-tariff barriers starts and whose purposes are not losing space in the international system, not to lose their influence over other States. However, the establishment of protectionist measures affecting trade positions of countries like Colombia because these measures are prejudicial to Colombian products.
