abstract

  • The following document is a descriptive analytical case study of the increasing and systematic use of drones by the United States during the period from 2009 to 2015 in the context of the War on Terror, specifically against the insurgent group in Yemen called Al- Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. The use of drones in counterterrorist military operations raises serious questions regarding compliance with international humanitarian law in three basic principles: proportionality, distinction and humanity. This article aims to analyze the main legal and international issues raised by the use of drones in scenarios of operations as complex as Yemen.
