abstract

  • This work asks how the transformations generated by the hydroelectric intervention have conditioned the forms of water management and the shores of the artisanal fishermen in the Betania Reservoir? Far from thinking of the transformations as the mere result of the hydroelectric installation, the argument of this text is that the transformations are also producers of new water realities, which end up defining the way in which decisions are made in the reservoir. In this specific case, as it is an ecosystem whose water levels, oxygenation and sedimentation -crucial to allow the life of fish, algae and other animals- depend on Emgesa, the decisions made by the fishermen regarding which waters to change, avoid or promote” (Bocarejo, 2018: 113) cannot be dissociated from the generation of energy, since they arise from a process of adaptation to the new conditions of the water that was once “river water”.
