El cambio político e ideológico por el Gobierno de Gustavo Petro: impacto en la percepción de la población migrante joven de Venezuela en Bogotá D.C.
Thesis
This master's thesis examines the political perception of the young migrant population living in Bogotá about the Petrista government which won the Presidential Elections on June 19, 2022. Emigration from Venezuela has been a strategy to recover economic stability and obtain better living conditions for many Venezuelans. Immigration in Colombia is characterized by a complex migration management creating an environment of liminal legality. According to the obtained results, the Petrista government is perceived as the chavismo in the early years. However, both democratic institutions and political pluralism (still) prevent the decline of democratic values under the Petrista government which also explains its inefficiency. The reestablishment of diplomatic relations with the Government of Maduro is valued on the one hand for the benefits for migratory procedures which the Duque Government had suspended, on the other hand, an alliance between the Petrista Government and the Chavista regime with the objective of deporting the migrant population of Colombia is suspected. Emigration from Colombia to privileged countries was idealized in order to obtain economic stability and citizenship but it was also considered as an exhausting process, and therefore as a last ressource in the case of a national crisis in Colombia. In this study in which the negative perception and skepticism towards the Petrista government prevails, I suggest the depoliticization of the young migrant population living in Bogotá, manifesting itself in the absence of trust in democratic institutions, the lack of interest in political dynamics with the exception of a strong democratic consciousness in the receiving country.
