This paper begins by addressing the historical background and the characterization of the raizal ethnicity from a legal perspective focused on tourism, the environment and the special national and international protection of ethnicity in the case of Providencia Island, Colombia. Later, the reader will find an analysis of tourism that includes aspects related to the studies of tourism and the sustainable development of this activity. From this analysis, background and characteristics of the current model of tourism development in the municipality of Providencia and Santa Catalina is examined. As part of the results of the foregoing analysis, a statement of the legal aspects related to environmental planning in the case of the expansion and renovation of the Embrujo Airport zone adjacent to Natural National Park Old Providence and Mc Bean Lagoon. Finally some general conclusions and recommendations will be made.
