  • Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are one of the main obstacles to thedevelopment of the century, according to the WHO in 2008 were responsible for 30% of deaths worldwide . Although diabetes mellitus is not within the WHOclassification established by this group of diseases , we consider important to theirmention and inclusion in our study because of the high number of patients with thisdisease with associated cardiovascular complications.Methodology: Case studies and selected with a simple random sample of 80cases and 80 controls matched for age and gender, among which are 91 men and60 women , performing univariate and multivariate statistical analysis for this typeof study controls.Results: Years of cigarette smoking had an association with the occurrence of theevent with an OR of 0.95 (confidence interval ( CI) 95 % , 0.91 to 0.99 ) andassisting with specialty controls cardiovascular event competition Associationreported a OR of 6.49 with 95% CI , 2.38 - 17.6.Conclusions: According to the results is that years of cigarette smoking has anassociation with hospitalization in patients with CVD and attending consultationswith cardiovascular specialties competition positively associated withhospitalization in this group of patients, indicates that patients who are hospitalizedbut could be related to a greater complexity of its pathologies .
