abstract

  • Despite international efforts to adopt good agricultural practices, currently unsustainable practices persist that generate environmental degradation, loss of biodiversity and a progressive reduction in agricultural production. This scenario is even more alarming if one considers the effort that farmers and producers must make to adapt to climate variability and guarantee their food security and food sovereignty. For this reason, the present study exposes agrobiodiversification as a theoretical and practical alternative for the development of more resilient and functional agricultural systems for the services that humanity requires. First, the relationship between the current legal framework and the initiatives for the promotion of agricultural biodiversity in Colombia is established, together with a review of successful experiences already developed in the region. In the end, some strategies are proposed to understand the diversity of the productive units through inventories, indices, management and estimation models based on the productive decisions of farmers in order to favor agricultural diversification projects.
