abstract

  • The Paid Sexual Activities (ASP) in Bogotá has had many looks, such as the Santa Fe neighbourhood's tolerance zone, which has been demonized by society since its inception in the 1960s. The government and the district have not been able to define the legal status of Paid Sexual Activities and those who develop them. The media have superficially portrayed the daily life and events in the zones of tolerance, especially in the Santa Fe neighbourhood, the largest and most known. In recent decades, not enough research and journalistic work has been developed that involves and contrasts direct sources' voice (sex workers and other workers in the sector), the official voice (district and police), laws and academia. In this research, ethnography, interviews and academic compilation are carried out that support a transformation in the traditional dynamics of sex work in the Santa Fe neighbourhood of Bogota, which the arrival of Venezuelan women has generated to carry out the ASP in the area, they have implemented other strategies to develop these activities, which produces disagreements with the Colombian women who carry out the ASP. It is essential to clarify that the research was carried out before the pandemic caused by the Covid-19. This contact with some sources, especially with Venezuelan women, was affected as the sector closed and several women migrated to other places. Despite the above, there are still conversations with several women engaged in Paid Sexual Activities, traders in the sector and Casa de Todas Mártires. By performing this degree, work arises the interest and the need to continue research in the sector and its different dynamics.
