abstract

  • The aim of this paper is to analyze from a critical perspective the phenomenon of land grabbing in Mozambique during the period 2007-2011. The result of this research suggests that land grabbing in Mozambique by countries with higher economic growth during this period is related to the contemporary dynamics of North-South relations in two ways. First, it is a consequence of the structural position of Mozambique as a periphery state in the capitalist world-economy. And second, it contributes to exacerbate the prevailing polarization in the current relations between North and South, while it renders more complex the relations of exploitation and dependence within the South itself.
