La María is a work by Colombian artist Juan Manuel Echavarría, which portrays a collection of objects made by victims of the kidnapping of the La María Church on May 30, 1999 in Cali. This work explores the conditions during the time in captivity that led to the creation of these collections, as well as the subsequent interest of the artist Juan Manuel in creating a work based on them. It also analyzes the creative process of the work and the relationship between Juan Manuel and the victims who participated in the work. From this process and the work, we seek to analyze how different ways of constructing memory and narratives of the kidnapping of the Church of La María are constructed. This ethnography is framed within the framework of the anthropology of art, memory and violence.
