abstract

  • Intersubjective recognition is one way in which democracy is expressed. In the public sphere of plural societies, where subjects can exchange and give reasons, religious discourses acquire importance as ways in which human action is influenced. The religious phenomenon within the post-secular age is to be understood in the context of spiritual beliefs and spiritual experiences in liberal societies, diversity must be oriented towards respect for difference and for the construction of the common good. For this, within the intersubjective debate, the interlocutors must be recognized as valid and equal despite their differences. Hand in hand with the processes of recognition, secular institutions that normatively govern people of different faiths must maintain neutral positions so as not to fall into biases or pretensions.
