abstract

  • The performance of the core is a fundamental part of sports performance since it is part of the synergy of movement and in the generation and transfer of forces from the central part of the body to the extremities in basic activities. The objectives of this study were to compare the PPT with the McGill test to measure core performance; subsequently, the reproducibility of PPT was analyzed. For the comparison study, 81 college athletes performed the McGill test and the PPT with an interval of 30 minutes. In the reproducibility study, 13 college athletes were tested at three different times with an interval of 20 minutes. The proportion of athletes who presented asymmetry was estimated, then the relationship between asymmetries and history of injury was contrasted. On the other hand, in the first study the relationship between the McGill test and the PPT was analyzed with the Pearson correlation coefficient. A low relationship was found between the McGill test and the PPT. Finally, the test-retest reliability of the PPT was estimated, which showed a high and statistically significant level of reliability. Due to the above and understanding that the core is a fundamental part of performance, it is important to delve into the muscular activity of the PPT, since there was no relationship with the McGill test due to the evaluation method.
