abstract

  • In the context of free trade and the international opening of markets, large corporations have adopted various tools to expand their coverage and assets. Among the most prominent is planned obsolescence, whose fundamental purpose is to limit the useful life of products, which entails a series of harmful consequences for the consumer in psychological, social, cultural and economic terms, in addition to the negative effects on the environment. In the monograph presented below, by means of qualitative-descriptive research, a review of the background and general characteristics of planned obsolescence and the impact it has had on the world is carried out first. Subsequently, the second chapter analyzes the consumer protection in force in the Colombian legal system, to finally contextualize through the final chapter the possibilities of legal protection available to Colombian consumers. The monograph concludes by indicating that although the country's regulations have different mechanisms for the safeguarding of consumer guarantees when acquiring goods or services, it is essential to regulate planned obsolescence directly in order to reduce its negative effects and contribute to the effective protection of the country's users and consumers.
