Construcción de las ventajas competitivas en organizaciones intensivas en conocimiento desde sus recursos estratégicos y sus atributos. Un estudio de cuatro casos de empresas farmacéuticas en Colombia
Thesis
The resource-based view and knowledge-intensive organizations in the pharmaceutical industry are relevant topics for organizational practice and scientific literature. The above, given that systematic literature review exercises carried out in this work have shown several questions, especially in the field of strategic management, which deserve more attention from businessmen and researchers, Therefore, the objective of this study is to describe how knowledge-intensive organizations build competitive advantages from their strategic resources and attributes. Considering the above, a multiple-qualitative case study was developed from an interpretivist perspective. The type of sampling was intentional, and the information collection techniques selected were semi-structured interviews and documentary reviews. As for the research participants, it is the Chief Executive Order and the knowledge workers. For the interpretation of the data, thematic analysis and cross-case analysis are proposed, with the support of the NVivo software. The results obtained show that the strategic resources (technical knowledge, human resources, and innovation) and their attributes, mainly the rare and inimitable attributes, that are extracted from said resources generate sustained competitive advantages in the pharmaceutical companies studied, which was evidenced by complementing the VRIO framework with the competitive profile matrix. Furthermore, the study identified that a national pharmaceutical company is not knowledge-intensive but is classified as a knowledge-rich organization. In other words, the findings show that not all companies that are part of the knowledge-intensive industry can be classified as knowledge.
