On April 28, 2021, a social outburst was generated that not only made visible the concerns of society regarding public policy issues, but also demonstrated the worrying state of journalistic freedoms in Colombia. The way in which violence against the press has been normalized has shown to have consequences in the exercise of the rights stipulated in the Political Constitution of Colombia and in the international agreements signed by the country. This social and legal analysis of the National Strike of April 28, 2021 seeks to investigate the impact that the actions of the ESMAD and the National Police had on the journalistic exercise, with the intention of analyzing the reasons why the actions of the public force turned out to be inconsistent with respect to the national and international obligations of the Colombian State in relation to the protection of journalistic work and its commitment to the social work of the media.
