  • Burnout Syndrome in medical personnel has become a risk factor for the overall well-being of health personnel, its symptoms are characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and low personal fulfillment, these affectations can lead to psychological and physical consequences that affect the loss of interest in the exercise of the profession and therefore present errors in professional practice with adverse effects on patient care. The aim of the study was to identify the influence of BS on the level of medical empathy in the professional's care of the patient, the intention to retire and the intention to change career. Information was collected by means of an electronic form filled out by 240 workers in a hospital in Bogota. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data. The results indicate that Burnout syndrome positively influences the intention to retire and career change, and that career change negatively affects the levels of medical empathy, affecting patient care by health personnel.
