abstract

  • This paper explores the concept of truth within transitional justice, aiming to address the lack of theorical development on the subject. The proposed analysis problematizes the traditional conception of truth as an isomorphic correspondence, where the world and the language are two distinct substances that must align. As an alternative, it proposes the testimony as a way of understanding truth that accounts for the historicity of our understanding and the alterity, while avoiding both relativism and absolute truths. Moreover, this understanding of truth takes into account the goals of transitional justice, including recognizing the victims, promoting civic trust and strengthening the rule of democratic law. Finally, while the close relation between truth and epistemology is highlighted, this work emphasizes the need to underscore the relation of truth and ethics, as it is a transversal theme throughout the paper.
