OBJECTIVE: To describe an innovative educational strategy that has a positive impact on comprehensive and humanized childbirth care. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This proposal is based on the following research question: What educational strategy could contribute to the humanization of health care for pregnant women? To answer this question, we began with a review of scientific literature; experiences in clinical rotations during the authors’ medical training; some women’s perceptions from 2019 to 2021 who had received childbirth care at a university hospital in the city of Bogotá, Colombia; and discussions with specialists in women’s and newborn’s health care issues. The most relevant topics were identified, and elements of the “toolbox” were designed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: These elements were as follows: 1) a mobile application with health topics for pregnant women in their postpartum stage, 2) a discussion with health professionals, and 3) a simulation workshop in humanized comprehensive care at childbirth with an emphasis on warm and assertive communication between the doctor and patient. We hope that this multidimensional educational strategy will have an impact on the performance of healthcare professionals, such as nurses, doctors, residents, medical interns, and specialists in obstetrics and gynecology, who attend childbirth services in different institutions nationally and globally. However, we believe that the results of these strategies could go beyond childbirth and into other areas of health care and even be useful in other professions other than health where the aim is to educate users of a particular system in communication and ethical strategies.
