The claim for Palestinian survival is not the monopoly of those of us who biologically come from it, and like any just cause, it must summon humanity. The world paid dearly for having ignored the warnings of organizations such as Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and B'Tselem, which for years had been desperately denouncing apartheid, ethnic cleansing and genocide, highlighted by Israel's unjustified and disproportionate response. It was, as the expression borrowed from a novel says, a chronicle of a tragedy foretold. Thus begins one of many accounts of avoidable violence.
