La Estrategia Mundial para la Salud de la Mujer, el Niño y el Adolescente, alcanzó logros a partir de la movilización del liderazgo político y compromisos de financiación, creando iniciativas conducentes al mejoramiento de la salud de la mujer y el niño a nivel global (2); sin embargo, los problemas de esta población que se manifiestan en diferentes índices de salud, aún presentan cifras preocupantes sobre todo en países con altos índices de pobreza e inequidad, Sumado a esta realidad, desde finales del año 2019, la población mundial está inmersa en un nuevo problema, la infección por el virus SARS-CoV-2, causa de la pandemia de la COVID-19, problema que afecta a toda la población y que ha creado incertidumbre en las consecuencias de esta infección, una vez se ha contraído la enfermedad o se ha estado en contacto con el virus sin enfermedad aparente en la población probablemente “sana” , la cual es posiblemente mucho mayor que la información oficial actual, incluyendo sectores especialmente sensibles como son las gestantes y los recién nacidos.
