Felipe Arturo is an architect and artist born in Bogotá in 1979. His practice takes elements from fields of urbanism, architecture and art in relation to politics, history, geography, and economics. His works and projects are mainly sculptures, installations, photographs and videos based on concepts such as structure, sequence and matter. He has been interested in the relationship between architecture and time, in the traces of history in vernacular and popular architecture, and also by an interdisciplinary approach to the colonial legacy in our world. He has developed his artistic practice in parallel to participatory strategies as a pedagogical model. Since 1999 he has developed artistic and museographic projects in different countries and has participated in artistic events such as Salón Nacional de Artistas of Colombia (20013), Premio Luis Caballero (2016-2017), the Cartagena Biennial of Contemporary Art (2014) or The Lyon Biennale (2019). He has also developed projects Botanical Garden of Bogotá (2005), Fragmentos-Espacio de Arte y Memoria (2019), the Plaza de Bolivar (2016), the Banco de la República Art Museum in Bogotá (2011); the Amparo Museum of Puebla (2010), Museo de la Tertulia (2017) and Lugar a Dudas (2013) in Cali. He has participated in exhibitions at Casa América in Madrid (2010), the Bronx Museum (2014) and the Sculpture Center (2007) in New York, the Museum of Contemporary African Art in Marrakech (2020) or the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit (2015). As editor and author, he has published the books La Cooperativa, 14 Salón Regional de Artistas (2012), Mark Dion Libro Árbol (2012), Poemas y Cuentos de la Selva Peruana by Enrique Bohórquez de Ligüori (2017), El Río Persigue La Gravedad ( 2018) and Agua del Pacífico (2021). He has also published articles in magazines such as NACLA, Errata and the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros editorial website. His work is in the collections of the Bank of the Republic of Colombia, Kadist (San Francisco), the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection, the Jumex Collection, the Amparo Museum Collection, the Bronx Museum, The National Museum of Colombia and the Lyon Museum of Contemporary Art, among others. He studied architecture at the Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá, received a master's degree in visual arts from Columbia University in New York, and a doctorate in visual arts from the University of Évora in Portugal. He was an associate professor of the Visual Arts Program of the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University from 2009 to 2022. Since 2023 he is an associate professor of the Faculty of Creation of the Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá.
