abstract

  • The present degree work focuses on analyzing the ways in which the dominant memory makes the diversity of memories about the Capuchin mission invisible, in the context of the Intercultural course (diplomado) that took place in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta between 2017 and 2018. The interest in returning to the memoirs on the Capuchin mission arises after realizing that in the intercultural courses it was easier to approach some narratives about the presence of the mission and its effects, over other narratives. The Capuchin mission was in Arhuaco territory for several decades and that led to it producing a complex and heterogeneous population. In the present, the consequences of their presence and actions continue to produce differentiations within the Arhuaco people and complex relationships. The first chapter was built with the intention of understanding how the capuchin mission makes differences within the Arhuaco people. And it focuses on developing two specific objectives: 1) Introduce what the author calls the dominant memory - mainly - in the context of intercultural course and their assistants, and 2) know some of the categories used to name the internal differences in the Arhuaco people, a product of the boarding school of the Capuchin mission. The second chapter focuses on reflecting on memory as a field of struggle, which takes place in the past and present of the Arhuaco people.
