abstract

  • On May 29, 2017, the urban renewal process began in a space located in the Voto Nacional neighborhood of the town of Los Mártires. It is a precarious area, where one of the largest drug stores in the country was dismantled. At present, the 3.92 hectares of this sector, known as “the Bronx”, are in an uninhabitable state. The urban renewal project that, to date, is in process, consists of creating the first Creative District in Latin America. The goal of the participating public entities is to build, based on the formulation and implementation of public urban renewal policies, a center for creative industries. Therefore, it turns out to be a matter of common interest, the study of the urban renewal process that is carried out in the Voto Nacional neighborhood through a chronicle where Marta Paredes, an inhabitant of the old Bronx, who decided to create a company to be reborn and be part of the new Creative District. The aim of this project is to examine the intervention process of the Voto Nacional neighborhood, and its impact on possible new social dynamics within this public space. Indeed, it will be pertinent to take as a starting point the following question: How has the urban renewal and revitalization strategy proposed by the district authorities developed in the former Bronx area (Voto Nacional)?
