abstract

  • Myocarditis is an inflammatory disorder of the myocardium that can occur secondary to infection, immune response, or toxicity. Global burden of disease registries have reported an incidence of 14 to 22 cases per 100,000 patients, 2/3 being men between the third and fourth decade of life (1). It can present in an acute, subacute, chronic or fulminant form depending on the time of evolution and its severity, with acute and fulminant myocarditis being those mostly associated with conditions complicated by cardiogenic shock and representing an important cause of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in young adults (2). . Therefore, this work seeks to describe the characteristics and outcomes present in adults with acute myocarditis in a retrospective cohort of the Cardioinfantil – Lacardio foundation 2017-2022.
