abstract

  • Permission to love is a work that tells us about ourselves, about love, revenge and resentment; primary feelings that go beyond a social class or a political group. Alejandra and Yonbairon are all of us who have ever felt that we do not belong to the world that touched us; and they take the stage to talk to us about humanity, but not as a hypocritical lesson in false morality, but as a portrait of imperfection itself, of imperfect love that in the end is the only thing we have left. This staging aims to show how two apparently incompatible characters manage to break through the curtain of social divisions, to fall in love; and in the process, show the public the humanity and vulnerability that surrounds a feeling like love. In other words, to show that, despite having very particular life experiences, they are, in essence, as human as anyone else. This project is developed within the framework of a country (Colombia) that is going through important challenges at a social and political level. The above, largely the product of the current transition period between a state of war that lasted almost 60 years, to a Colombia that tries to adjust to implement an imperfect peace agreement, and questioned by a good part of the population. This constitutes an important obstacle, since in the face of a peace-building scenario, beyond the fact that the state fulfills its part in the implementation of the corresponding policies; the action of all the agents involved is required, which are not only the state and the ex-combatants; but also the victims, the private sector, ordinary citizens and even the international community. In the development of this musical theater work, an investigation is carried out that investigates the appropriate way to express the history and the context in which it was developed. Said creative process can be consulted in the attached pdf file and the theatrical work resulting from the investigation in the video file.
