  • Introduction: Gastric cancer is one of the oncologic pathologies with the highest incidence worldwide and nationally and is the leading cause of death from cancer in Colombia. The clinical stage at the time of diagnosis is the main determinant of prognosis and the outcomes of gastric cancer treatment. Objective: To explore the experience and de itinerary to obtain the diagnosis of gastric cancer y access the adequate treatment of the disease Methods: Through qualitative research through the application of a semi-structured interview and analysis of the data collected, which seeks to describe the experience of patients diagnosed with gastric cancer during the process of obtaining the diagnosis and access to treatment. Results: A total of 6 interview were gathered identifying four axes comprising health access barriers and facilitators, knowledge and understanding of the disease y routes to the diagnosis and treatment. Barriers identified throughout the study were: Administrative, Social, Epidemiological, Economical, Educative and due to the natural history of the disease. Conclusions: There are different health access barriers impacting the acquisition on diagnosis and adequate treatment for gastric cancer. However, the most important barrier is the silent course of the disease until advanced stages
