abstract

  • Female genital mutilation is performed on girls and adolescents of different ethnic groups. This tradition totally or partially eliminates their genital organs for non-medical reasons, preventing them from accessing a dignified life and to live their sexual and reproductive freedom, resulting in the subjection of cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment or punishment which is expressly forbidden in international legal dogmatics since 1948. The present work is based on testimonies presented in documentaries, whose purpose is to raise awareness among viewers about the multiple rights violated with ablation and highlights why States should use international treaties effectively giving priority to the implementation of human rights and the best interests of the child.
