abstract

  • Disability is a complex problem affecting individuals and their relationship with the environment. Its worldwide prevalence is increasing, just like in Colombia. The article aims at analyzing the sociodemographic and disability characteristics of people who live in Soacha, Cundinamarca (Colombia) by using the secondary data included in the location and characterization record for disabled people between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2018, in order to conduct a cross-sectional study. The results led to a sample of 1311 records, 58% were men, the socioeconomic status 2 prevailed with 48.4%, the most frequent body impairment was nervous system-related, as well as the difficulty to perform activities such as walking and running. Moreover, the link between physical barriers and age was demonstrated. This study will optimize the decision-making regarding public policies aimed at these people’s needs.
